Sustainability In Supplier Selection

As sustainability continues to gain importance in procurement, integrating it into daily operations remains a challenge. At our latest event, we explored how CO₂ emissions can be factored into supplier selection and decision-making.

Sustainability is a matter close at heart for most Procurement Professionals. As important as it is it has been proven to be a challenge to incorporate the subject into the daily tasks and processes. There is no easy way to either put an internal price on carbon dioxide or take the emissions into account, for instance, during supplier selection.

Last week we held the last event before the summer and we addressed the subject. Victor Carlsson and Freja Ekman from Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, who has written their master thesis with us during the spring, presented their results during an After Work with colleagues and invited guests.

The attendees were presented a new framework for supplier selection which include CO2 emissions along with valuable insights on sustainability within Procurement. There was also a debate whether or not the internal UN global compact pricing for CO2 emissions was relevant or not. There are now several studies that showed that the value of 100$/ton CO2 emissions is not irrelevant as a basis for savings calculations.

Three P would like to extend our appreciation to both Freja and Victor and the attendees for a memorable evening with a lot of interesting discussions. We will be back with new events in the fall. Stay tuned and have a wonderful summer!
